Before you start making creations, I will explain a little patchwork sewing technique.

1. Patchwork Technique

Patchwork technique is the art of composing and combining colorful fabrics and motifs following a repetitive pattern. Patchwork is the art of bringing together the fabric with a planned pattern that produces a specific image, or “story-telling”. Fabrics for patchwork come from intact fabrics, usually, cotton-type fabrics then cut to size and pattern, then put together by stitching to form the desired design.

2. Quilting

Quilting (stitch sewing technique) is sewing three layers of patchwork fabric (top quilt, batting, and backing). This technique is just an improved technique and is done after inserting a type of foam called dacron or silicon between sheets of fabric that have the same size and follow a pattern that already exists or that you have created yourself. The simplest pattern is straight lines that follow patterns of patchwork, triangles, squares and so on. Seams or quilting must form the entire patchwork design to give rise to an embossed effect or emboss on the fabric.

3. Applique

Applique is the art of forming images from pieces of cloth and pasted on the surface of the fabric.

MATERIALS AND TOOLS NEEDED:

  • Patchwork or unused fabric
  • Scissors
  • Dacron or silicone
  • Needles and sewing thread or sewing machine

Step 1: Cut the fabric using a patchwork tool if there is one, according to the desired pattern and size.
I use a carton for a pattern, a ruler to press and a pencil to make a tracing image, then cut it.

Step 2: Unite the pieces of cloth using needles and sewing thread or sewing machines (patchwork technique).

Step 3: Cut the remaining stitch fabric to make it look neat.

Step 4: Cover with a plain cloth as a base, then sew all three sides and leave 1.

Step 5: Insert the dacron or silicone according to the size of the tablecloth, then sew to close the hole.

Additional information: If it feels too thick, then dacron or silicon do not need to be used. I still use it to make it look full.

The third technique (applique) is not used, because the fabric used is patterned. Generally, this technique is used on plain fabrics.
