3 Steps to Make Your Own Table Runner Made of Denim

1. Determine the Ideal Jeans for Your Table

A pair of old jeans is enough fabric to cover a coffee table. Thus, adding another or two jeans legs to the mix is ideal if you need a longer runner for a relatively large table. The best types of jeans for this project are boot cut jeans, flared, or straight legged. It’s wise to avoid using the legs of skinny jeans since they will almost certainly not be wide enough.

2. Cut the Jeans Up

The quickest and most convenient method of obtaining large denim fabric pieces is to cut the hems of the jeans. For the denim table runner, remove the legs by cutting them below the back pocket down to the crotch. You’ll have two long tubes of denim to work with by then.

Make a lengthwise cut along the seam of long tubes to open it up a little more. Then, do the same to the other side of the seam to finish it. Lay the seam flat and repeat the process with the other one. Repeat the process with the other tubes to get four long pieces of denim. If you need more fabrics, use more than one pair of jeans.

3. Sew Them Up Together

If it is not long enough for your needs, you can sew another leg or two to the bottom of the piece. However, there is a good chance that the runner won’t be in the same size throughout. Jean’s legs are typically wider at the hip and thigh area and are only rarely completely straight top to the bottom.

To make the runner more even, place it on a cutting mat and smooth it out. Once you have finished cutting the edges of the jeans and make sure they all have the same length all the way around. After it’s done, sew around the top and bottom of the border of a denim table runner. Do not forget to also backstitch at the start and end of each row.

A handmade table runner made from jeans is a creative way to repurpose old stuff. There are three simple steps to transform old jeans into a table runner. The first thing to do is choose the jeans and then cut the jeans’ legs and the seams to get the fabric. The last is to sew them all together.
